Thanksgiving Week

Thanksgiving week is here and it is a busy one! Maybe you're like me. I'm working hard to deck our halls and make our home a warm place to make new holiday memories.  If you have been following on my Facebook page, I have been posting little challenges to freshen up your home. My house is never perfect so I'm not posting those with the intent to make you think I have it all together.  They are intended to simply bring attention to some tasks in my home that are often forgotten. To keep our minds focused on what this season is all about, some of the challenges have been family focused. The housekeeping tasks don't seem so daunting if we remember all we are thankful for and take it one task at a time.

If you are hosting Thanksgiving I have to share this with you. Did you know Pioneer Woman has an old post that lays out her Thanksgiving prep schedule for the whole week? Here it is. This is basically what I do to help make all the cooking a little easier.
This Friday is also the official kick off to the holiday shopping season. Stay in your pj's with a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate and a good movie while you shop! Somewhat SimpleI Heart Naptime, and Craftaholics Anonymous are hosting the Black Friday Online Holiday Boutique! Just head to one of their sites on Friday (starting at Midnight) and shop with some awesome online and Etsy shops! I will have a code for a discount there!
I'm stocking my shop this week with some fun items to make your packages pretty and great gift items! I will post some preview pictures later on this week.
I'm off to prep some meals for the week....I always forget how busy this week is and how much I don't feel like cooking dinner at the end of the day. Not this year! It's crockpot week in our house.....well, through Wednesday anyway. I'll share the recepes with you next week so you can use them to make these busy holiday season weeks a little easier!

Homemade Eye Makeup Remover

For a couple of months now, I have been using a homemade eye makeup remover.   I was tired of paying for it and had run out.

Want to know how easy it is?

Homemade Eye Makeup Remover
2 oz Extra Virgin Olive Oil
2 oz Almond Oil

That's it. Whatever size your bottle is, fill it half way with EVOO and half with Almond Oil. Mine was a 4 oz bottle that I washed out well and let dry.

That's it! I love it and won't go back to the kind with chemicals I can't even pronounce! Plus that tender skin around your eyes needs the extra moisture. I'll take all the help I can get!

Our Favorite Thanksgiving Recipes

Do you know what you are cooking for Thanksgiving yet? Does your menu change or do you have the same dishes every year like us?
Over the past few years I have been hosting my family. I love having everyone in our house for the holiday.  Over that time I have searched, tried, and found some great recipes that are now on our menu every year. Want to know what they are?
The best turkey I have ever made. Perfection.
Pioneer Woman's Creamy Mashed Potatoes. We cook these all year long. They are the best!  I think my daughter would do just about anything for these potatoes.
Do you have any favorite recipes you've found online? Share the links in the comments so we can all find something yummy!!

Map Covered Bookshelves

I have been going through my entire house and whipping it into shape! It feels do good to be getting organized and getting rid of the things we don't truly need!

If you want to play along, every day on my Facebook page I'm posting an easy challenge. By Thanksgiving we will have a house that's less cluttered, more organized and we will have made some great family memories as well.
The playroom needed help.  I stayed up late one night and went through everything. The crayons, markers, craft supplies....everything. I even took about 30 minutes to recover the backs of the bookshelves.

I didn't want it to be permanent so all I did was cut sections of maps (these happened to be maps of WI and Saskatchewan) and used double sided tape to secure them to the backs of the shelves.
I love the colors in maps!
Then, I just organized! My favorite part!
I am loving how this space is coming together! More to come!

Facebook Challenge

Did you read about the Facebook challenge I have going on? Every day (week days) between yesterday and Thanksgiving I will be posting a small challenge. It could be a cleaning task that doesn't get done very often, something to organize or a fun family activity.

The point if this is to take care if our homes and our families with a joyful heart. Clutter creates stress so many if the days will be geared towards removing extra stuff. We don't need all this STUFF.

Yesterday's challenge was to remove everything from your fridge and freezer and scrub it out. I learned something. I need to be more intentional about out leftover food. Geesh.

Here's my fridge today and a great idea. My kidlets always have a glass if something they haven't finished. We don't want to mix them up! To keep the cups straight, I wrote their names on a piece if washi tape and stuck it on a shelf. Now they know where to put their cups and which one is theirs!

Head on over to Facebook to see today's challenge!  Facebook likes to decide what you see in your feed so share, like or comment to make sure you keep seeing my posts!

Christmas Signs

I had so much fun painting these signs on pine boards! My hubby stained the boards and I painted.

Can't wait to find the perfect spot for them!
And check out these chalkboard signs now available in my shop!
